LAzarus   Ministry

At the death of a Christian, whose life of faith was begun in the waters of baptism and strengthened at the Eucharistic table, the Church intercedes on behalf of the deceased because of its confident belief that death is not the end nor does it break the bonds forged in life. The Church also ministers to the sorrowing and consoles them in the funeral rites with the comforting word of God and the sacrament of the Eucharist. ~from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops

You have the possibility - in fact, you are encouraged - to help plan the Funeral Mass.

You may have a Funeral Mass in any one of our three churches.  The funeral home you choose will contact us to schedule the date for the Mass.  The Mass time is set for 10:00 AM.  A church employee/volunteer will contact you for your help in the planning. You have options concerning the entrance procession, the readings, songs, etc.  You may choose to have a family member or friend to read the scripture selections and/or bring up the offertory gifts in church, or your preference may be to have a Lazarus Minister or layperson from the church read instead.

The music will be performed with an organist and one cantor selected by our music director.  The music you choose for the Mass must be Catholic hymns.  Secular music is not appropriate for a Catholic Funeral Mass.

We will do our best to accommodate the wishes of the family during preparations.  The link below will provide you with additional information, sample music and reading choices, and guidance on sharing reflections of the deceased to assist you.
