"Music is a way for God to lead us to the realm of higher things. As Saint Augustine says, “Singing is for the one who loves”. Music is therefore a sign of God's love for us and of our love in him. It is no wonder that singing together in church expresses so well the sacramental presence of God to his people." - Sing to the Lord: Music in Divine Worship
The Second Vatican Council taught that, “liturgical worship is given a more noble form when the divine offices are celebrated solemnly in song, with the assistance of sacred ministers and the active participation of the people.” Christians have sung in sacred liturgy since the Church’s earliest days. When we sing in the context of Holy Mass, we join a tradition of sacred worship that goes back even to the time of King David himself. “Let us come before him with a song of praise,” wrote King David, “joyfully sing out our psalms.”
The mission of the Music Ministry at the North American Martyrs Parish is to bring people closer to God by deepening the experience of liturgy through excellence in music. We strive to enhance the liturgical experience by encouraging and leading the gathered assembly in song, and consequently, deepening our relationship with God.
We have wonderful groups of volunteers who provide the prayerful music you hear at Mass. From the cantors to the choirs, our role, is to lift our voices in prayer to God and what better way to do that than to sing our praises to God in song. Special thanks and blessings to all who already participate in the North American Martyrs Music Ministry! It is an essential role and service to our communities, and a very meaningful way to put one's talents to work back to the service of God.
Our Parish Music Ministry welcomes people of all ages from children and youth to seniors and from a broad spectrum of ability and gift. Please consider joining our choir. People are not required to read music or have an extraordinary vocal ability! Just willingness and a positive attitude are what's needed. Each person makes a difference!
